Stanford Talk: “Power Up Your Teaching of Communication in Healthcare Techniques from Business and Performing Arts”

My Keynote Address for the Stanford Center for Immersive and Simulation Based Learning 2014 Annual Symposium

In this 45 minute interactive presentation, I use the power of story, science and interactive theatre exercises to:

  • Explain how current curricula for teaching communication in healthcare falls short of the curricula used in Performing Arts and Business
  • Teach participants principles and practices of opening activities to engage their students.
  • Demonstrate Medical Improv, an innovative communication curricula for healthcare providers.
  • Teach participants principles and practices of closing activities to assure long-term impact of an educational session.
